Quadruple Bond

Postby Inderpal Singh 2L » Wed Nov 11, 2020 1:22 pm

Is there a such thing as a quadruple bond by chance? So far I have only heard of single, double, and triple bonds. Even if we won't be reviewing it in this class, will be ever come across a quadruple bond in chemistry?

Yes they are a thing but they are most common among the transition metals in the middle of the d-block, so we won't be exposed to these in the course.

Yes they exist when 8 electrons are involved in bonding, but are mostly found in the d block elements. I believe there are also quintuple bonds.
