London Dispersion Forces

Would having more bonded atoms make LDF interactions stronger? Why would that make it stronger?

Yes, more bonds would make London Dispersion Forces stronger, because a heavier atom with more bonds will have electrons extending further from the nucleus with a weaker connection, so they can temporarily form dipole connections.

Yes! More bounded atoms imply more electrons, increasing the polarizability of the particle or the strength of the LDFs.

Yes! You can think of it as 1.) there are more electrons that can interact with other electrons (of other molecules), and 2.) because there are more electrons, they experience a lower effective nuclear charge, and are farther away from the nucleus, and 3.) because they are farther away, they are more polarizable, and can interact easily with other molecules

Hi!
Having more bonds does make the London Dispersion Forces stronger of the molecule stronger. Even though LDF's are the weakest, when stacked upon each other they have great strength. Hope tis helps.

I believe that having more bonded atoms would make the london dispersion forces greater because the size of the molecule is larger. The larger the molecule, the stronger the dispersion forces. This is because the electrons are held less tightly to the nucleus since they are further away.
