London Dispersion Forces/ van der Waal forces

Is there a difference between London Dispersion Forces and van der Waals forces? If there isn't, would all interactions between molecules have LDF or does it only pertain to van der Waal forces?

I think that there are slight differences in how you would use the two descriptions but for this course I think they are mutually interchangeable.

There is no difference! All molecules have LDF/van der Waals forces.

Those are the same exact things, just different names. Dr. Lavelle said he prefers using the term "induced dipole induced dipole" but they are all the same thing and present in all intermolecular forces.

They are the same thing! Just for reference: dispersion, London, induced dipole-induced dipole, and van der waal forces are all the same thing. All interactions between molecules have this force.

London Dispersion Forces and Van der Waal Forces mean the same thing. They are both induced-dipole induced-dipole and everything has these forces.

LDF and van der Waals forces are the same thing, and any compound can undergo LDF because of their fluctuating property. Hope this helps!

He introduced the force and listed all the potential names but those are the same thing! He did say he prefers the term induced dipole induced dipole, I think because it gives a good summary of what is occurring when these forces are at play.
