Electron Domain

Postby Adan Bergara 2A » Tue Nov 12, 2024 10:19 am

Today in discussion we briefly went over what an electron domain was but I had trouble understanding it. Can anyone explain what an electron domain is and its relevance?

An electron domain is just a region where electrons are likely to be found. There are two types of domains, bonding and non-bonding (bonded electrons are unpaired). Since lone pair and bonded pair electrons affect the shape, the domains just give predictions about the geometry of the molecule.
