Pi electron delocalization

Postby Kayla Cho 2C » Wed Nov 13, 2024 12:23 am

How does the delocalization of π electrons in resonance structures affect the molecular geometry, specifically for So3?

Hello ! When SO3 has delocalized π electrons, it spreads out the electron density evenly over all three bonds, so they end up the same length. This makes the molecule perfectly balanced in a flat, triangle shape and more stable overall. Hope this helped !
