Bidentate ligands vs Regular Ligand

Postby Sod Ider » Tue Dec 03, 2024 1:29 am

Could you explain how a bidentate ligand differs from a regular ligand, and why it can form two bonds instead of one? Thanks

Hi, to my understanding, a bidentate ligand differs from a regular ligand in that it has two donor atoms, allowing it to form two coordinate bonds with a metal center, whereas a regular ligand typically forms only one bond due to having a single donor atom. Hope this helps!
