Shape In metals

Postby JohnVRobinson » Sat Dec 09, 2023 3:00 pm

How does the molecular shape of molecules change when dealing with metal compounds. And how do the orbital reactions contribute to the shape aswell?

In metal compounds, the molecular shape is influenced by the arrangement of ligands around the metal center. Metals form coordination complexes where they share electrons with ligands, and the resulting shape is determined by the number and arrangement of these ligands. The involvement of orbitals, such as s, p, and d orbitals, in the bonding process also contributes to the overall geometry of the metal complex.
