Isomers

Postby Alyssa Orantes 2D » Sun Dec 10, 2023 11:17 pm

Hi!

How am I able to identify a cis isomer and not confuse it for a trans isomer? This question stumped me on the final and wanted to find out how to know which is which.

Hello!
To answer your question on differentiation between a cis isomer and trans isomer,
For a cis isomer, two pieces (atoms or groups) stay on the same side of a double bond closer together. For a trans isomer, two pieces (atoms or groups), are on different sides of the double bond (across, farther apart).
