Sigma/Pi Bonds

Can someone explain this please? It was mentioned in the lecture today but I didn't really get it

"Sigma bonds refer to hybridized orbitals.
Pi bonds refer to unhybridized orbitals.
Geometry follows hybridization."

Sigma bonds can result from both hybridized atomic orbitals (eg. sp3 and sp3) and unhybridized atomic orbitals (eg. px and px). Sigma refers to one are of interaction between the orbitals, where pi refers to two.
