How do you determine if a molecule is polar or not?

I usually look at all the dipole moments in the molecule's VESPR model, which shows visually if there are any dipole moments that cancel. If they don't cancel, then it will be polar.

Also, looking at the symmetry of the molecule can help you decide if the molecule is polar or nonpolar. Symmetrical molecules tend to be nonpolar while non-symmetrical molecules tend to be polar.
