Does resonance have an impact on the molecular shape? How do we decide which Lewis structure to base our VSEPR theory on?

Since all bonds are treated as equivalent in the VSEPR model, it doesn't matter which resonance structure is used

Resonance shouldn't have an effect on the shape since technically, a resonant structure is the same structure put together in a different way. However, you should use formal charges to decide on the best lewis structure before you decide on the shape.

Resonance does not influence shape. What configuration to use is determined by using formal charges. The sum of all the formal charges should equate the charge of the ion, or at least be close to it.
