Do double bonds take up more space in the VSEPR model than single bonds? or not because they just count as one region of electron density? By take up space I mean do they have a wider bond angle than single bonds.
The VESPR model of CO2 is linear. Although it has a total of 4 bonds, the bonds are simply summarized as existing between the Carbon and O's. To answer your question, the existence of double bonds is disregarded in VESPR models since it would get too hectic to include their interactions in the model.
the only thing that affects the bond angle in the VSEPR are lone pairs---the more lone pairs on the central atoms, the lesser the angle because the lone pairs push the bonding pairs closer together. bond multiplicity does not matter.
