Dipole Moments

Postby Akash_Kapoor_1L » Tue Nov 21, 2017 2:57 pm

When drawing dipole moments are we supposed to use the original convention or the "modern convention" that is used in the textbook?

The original convention points the arrow towards the more electronegative (negative charged) element, whereas the modern convention points the arrow towards the atom with a relative positive charge...

I think we use the original convention...the examples shown in class and in my discussion sessions have showed arrows pointing toward the more electronegative.
