sigma and pi bond

I am quite confused on how to determine a sigma bond from a pi bond can anyone help?

A sigma bond is formed when 2 orbitals overlap end to end. A pi bond is formed when 2 orbitals overlap side to side. Pi bonds overlap with more surface area, so the bond is stronger. A pi bond will be 2 parallel p orbitals overlapping while a sigma bond will be any other orbitals overlapping. There is always one sigma bond in any kind of bond, and additional bonds are pi bonds.

not sure if you were confused on this too but when given a lewis structure, a single bond is a sigma bond while double and triple bonds are pi bonds :)
