Trigonal Planar
Does the Trigonal Planar structure means all the atoms are in the same plane? I'm kinda confused because Professor Lavelle added a 3-D structure of BF3. What is its actual structure? 2-D or 3-D?

Re: Trigonal Planar
It's 2D in the sense that yes, the atoms are on the same plane. But it's a molecule, so it's still 3D, like how a piece of paper is 3D.

The actual structure would be 3D since molecules exist in a 3-dimensional world. All Lewis Structures are 2D forms of molecules which is why they can have multiple different structures but the VSPR models display how molecules look and function according to the laws of the physical world.

What is the meaning of the solid line or the dotted line on Lewis Structures that are 3D?

All molecules are 3D. He mentions lewis structure as 2D so that we get the idea on how to draw lewis structures and how valance electrons work.

So I did some research on what the different types of bond drawings were and what they meant. A solid line means that the bonds are on the same plane as the paper. A dashed line means that the bond extends away from that plane. A wedge-shaped line represents that the bond is facing you.

The actual structure is 3D but the Lewis Structures show it in 2D form to show the bondings and lone pairs the molecule has.
