Lewis Structures and VSEPR

Postby Shuyi Yu 1B » Sat Nov 10, 2018 9:50 pm

Do we need to draw lewis structures in a way that reflects the molecular shape? Also for future tests would it matter where we draw the lone pair in lewis structures?

In class, I think it was mentioned that it is okay if we just draw normal lewis structures if the question doesn't specify because sometimes the shapes can get really complicated. However, we will have to be able to name the actual VSEPR shape. As for lone pairs, I think it doesn't really matter which side we draw them, but I am not really sure about that.
