does anyone know how many different molecular shapes we will need to memorize?

I think that the only molecular shapes that we have to know are the ones we discuss in lectures.

I think we also need to know the bond angles associated with the molecular shapes

I believe we only have to know the 5 most basic molecule shapes involving just two elements in a compound. The 5 shapes are: linear (180 deg), trigonal planar (120 deg), tetrahedral (109.5 deg), trigonal bipyramidal (3 at 120 deg, 2 at 90 deg), and octahedral (90 deg). The specific bond angles also depend on the orientation of electrons in the molecule as well, so they can be a little smaller or larger than their set angles.
