Molecules with the same molecular formula

Postby ian_haliburton_1f » Tue Nov 13, 2018 6:35 pm

In lecture last week, Dr. Lavelle pointed out two molecules that have the same molecular formula but are referred to by different names because they have different shapes. How would one differentiate between two possibilities when the formulas are the same?

Hi Ian!

I believe this is more applicable to the realm of organic chemistry, but I think you can figure it out based on the way the formula is written. There are a bunch of naming conventions for these sorts of molecules. The link below has more information about this.

Hope this helps!
