For the lewis structure for SCl4 why do we add two electrons to the Sulfur atom instead of just adding two double bonds?

By adding a lone pair on Sulfur, and only forming single bonds with Cl, it makes the formal charge 0 for every atom

The molecule is more stable that way as the formal charges of S and Cl are all zero.
