What kind of molecular shape would H20 take on? Is it tetrahedral or bent and why? I seemed to get confused about this example in section today.

The electron geometry is tetrahedral whereas the molecular geometry is bent. This is because oxygen has two lone pairs and two covalent bonds.

Thank you! Can you explain what difference between electron geometry and molecular geometry is?

When the molecule has no lone pairs, the molecular shape and electronic geometry will be the same, but when there are lone pairs as in this example, the lone pairs will bend the molecule slightly but the electronic geometry will fit the predicted shape.
