For part (a) I3- the lewis structure in the book is vertical. Is it important to draw the linear structure vertically rather than horizontally?

From what I understand, it shouldn't matter whether you draw it vertically or horizontally. The electron and bond positions would be the same, which is what is most important.

The drawing depicts a 180-degree bond angle both horizontally and vertically, so the orientation does not matter.

As long as it shows the 180 degree bond then it should not matter whether it is horizontal or vertical.
