Drawing out Molecular Shape

Postby Melody Zhang 3L » Wed Nov 21, 2018 1:33 pm

Do we need to draw out the dashed line and bold line when asked to draw the lewis structure?

I think you are referring to the dipole moment. I asked my TA this and she said she doesn't think so but it doesn't hurt to know it, especially for individual bond dipoles. For this, you just put the arrow to the more electronegative atom.

No, we will not be asked to draw VSEPR models, though it does help to visualize the molecule. When asked to draw the lewis structure, the standard dots and lines are fine.

I believe we won't be required to actually draw the models, as mentioned in lecture. You will need to know the structure name and formula (AXE) though.
