Drawing Structures on Test

Postby 305174946 » Thu Nov 22, 2018 9:43 pm

When drawing the lewis structures on the test and using the wedges, if we "misplace" an axial or equatorial atom will that be a major mistake?

It doesn't really matter that much.

Does anyone know if we are expected to be able to draw the structures with the wedges? Or is it just naming the shape?

I believe Dr. Lavelle said we only need to know how to draw Lewis structures, which would mean we don't need to draw the wedges. He said we would need to be able to name their shapes instead.

No, I don't think it matters

Just know how to draw the lewis structure and name the shape based off of electron densities, bonds, and lone pairs. Wedges just help with visualization.

No, as long as you have the basic structure down and don't add things that don't need to be there you should be fine.

No, you should be fine just being able to draw the basic lewis structures.

According to what was stated in class, you'll only be really expected to draw the lewis structure and determine the name of the shape.

Professor Lavelle said we only need to draw the lewis structures and identify the shape. We would never need to draw the shape;

Focus on naming the structure and bond angles
