What factors/characteristics help you determine whether a bond is strong or not in a molecule?

It just depends on which bond it is because the strongest bond is ion-ion, hydrogen bond, ion-dipole, dipole-dipole, dipole-induced dipole, and London Dispersion Forces which is the weakest bond. This is just an order from strongest to weakest which you can just memorize.

The difference in electronegativity, the amount of bonds, and the melting/boiling point can also tell you whether a bond is strong or not

How can you tell whether the compound is polar or nonpolar based on the shape of the Lewis structure?

You can tell by drawing in dipoles on all bonds. If the dipole directions do not cancel out completely in a molecule, it is considered polar. A nonpolar molecule will have the same atoms around it such as methane (CH4).
