Bond Angles

Postby Fayez Kanj » Tue Nov 27, 2018 6:26 pm

In trigonal bipyramidal compounds, I know there are 120, 90, and 180 degree bond angles. What the are bond angles in See-saw and T shaped molecules?

Also, Octahedral compounds have bond angles of 90 and 180. What would be the bond angles in square pyramidal and square planar shaped molecules?

The bond angles are the following:
See-saw: less than 90 and 120 degrees
T-Shape: less than 90 degrees
Square Pyramidal: less than 90 degrees
Square Planar: 90 degrees

I have found that googling "VSEPR Chart" brings up great charts that you can help use to memorize these bond angles. Some can be inferred, but many, in my opinion, should just be memorized.
