The textbook lists pentagonal bipyramidal as a possible molecular geometry, but I don’t believe that any of the examples we’ve done have had this shape. Is it super rare? What would be an example of a molecule with this shape?

Any molecule with the VSEPR formula AX7 will be pentagonal bipyramidal. I don't know whether or not it's rare, but we definitely haven't covered it in class, so I would guess it's not super common.

My TA told us that usually a central atom will at most form 6 bonds, with a total of 12 valence electrons in its outermost shell, so since pentagonal bipyramidal has 7 bonds to its central atom, I think it is a rarity.

ZrF73- and HfF73 also have pentagonal bipyramidal shape.
