how do you determine the polarity of a central atom?

I don't think there is a specific method for determining the polarity of a single atom. When talking about polarity, it is a molecule with two or more atoms. To find the polarity of a molecule, you just have to look at the electronegativity and then treat them as vectors. If the vectors cancel then the molecule is non-polar, but if they don't then it is polar.
