Determining Bond Angles

Postby Sean Sugai 4E » Mon Nov 11, 2019 12:39 am

How do you find the bond angles of molecules that are not fixed by symmetry? By extension, how was H2O's bond angle found?

Water's bond angle does correspond to a certain atomic symmetry.Aside from being able to tell bond angles from symmetry, there is no other method of knowing the bond angle. If there was, it is out of scope of this class.

I also think this might appear when Dr Lavelle begins to discuss the shape of molecules and structures in class.
