VSEPR

Postby 305385703 » Tue Nov 12, 2019 10:02 am

I heard from my TA this thing called VSEPR. I heard it was about naming shapes of molecules. Are we supposed to memorize all the names of the molecular shapes?

I'm sure we'll be learning more about them in the next lectures.

We will probably eventually have to know the names, as well as the expected bond angles, of VSEPR. Further, we'll have to know the hybridization, or hybrid orbitals, of a given atom in a molecule.

But Dr. Lavelle will probably go over all this in a lot of depth before expecting us to know it.

Hope this helped!

We probably will have to memorize/be familiar with the different shapes

I went to a UA workshop last week. She said that we will be expected to memorize all of the shapes. She also suggests we memorize the VSEPR model.

I think we should be able to derive the molecular shape but memorizing would help
