Determining polarity 2E 25 pt d

Will all AX(n) molecules be non polar if the central atom is surrounded by the same X atom? What cases, in general, will a molecule be polar or non-polar?

Yes, AX2, AX3, AX4, AX5, and AX6 are non polar if there are no electron pairs and if X is all the same.

The only time it could be polar is if one of the X atoms was different so that the dipoles no longer canceled each other out

As others have said, the answer to your first question is yes. A molecule is non-polar when the dipole moments of the molecule cancel out. A molecule is polar when the dipole moments of that molecule do not cancel out.
