How do radicals affect electron arrangement and shape?

Radicals count as 1 region of electron density but the repulsion is not as great as that of a lone pair.

The single unpaired electron on the central atom is treated as a region of high electron density, so it acts like a lone pair when determining the molecular shape.

I think Dr. Lavelle said radicals are treated as one region of electron density when it comes to determining shape.

Radicals act as electron density in the shape of the molecule. However since it only has one electron instead of a pair, the repulsion is not as strong as it would be in an area with 2 electrons.
