sulfite vs NH3
Why in the lecture the bond angles for sulfite which has 3 bond pairs and one lone pair, is different than the NH3 which also has 3 bond pairs and 1 lone pair

It is different because the different atoms and lone pairs cause a varying bond angles. The repulsion seen in sulfite vs ammonia is different because of the ways in which each individual lone pair interacts with the other atoms.

They are both the same shape- trigonal pyramidal-. Because the lone pair forces the bonding electrons closer together, the angles between the bonding pairs are smaller than 109°. This is true for both. The only difference is the O-S-O bond angles are 106° and the H-N-H bond angles are 107°. However, this is a small and pretty unnecessary detail. All in all, they are both good examples of how lone pairs force bonding electrons closer together than expected.
