AXE formula

What does the A in the AXE formula for molecular shape mean and can it ever have subscripts? Thanks in advance :)

It will not have a subscript. It is the central atom.

A is the central atom. I'm pretty sure it can't have subscripts since there can only be one central atom when we're talking about molecular shape.

A is the central atom, X is the attached atoms, and E is the lone pairs.

A is the middle atom and will never have a subscript. Only E (lone pairs of the central atom) and X (bound atoms) can have subscripts.

Being the central atom, A, does not have subscripts. We look at the shapes of molecules using the central atom and the atoms that it is bonded to. No shape will have an A with a subscript.

If there is no central atom, there would simply be no A in the formula. For example, in I3-, the formula is X2E3 because there is no central atom. (This is problem 2E13A)

Hi! What's the shape of the AX2E VSEPR formula? I think it is bent or trigonal planar, but I'm not sure.

A is the central atom and AX2E is considered as bent shape.
