Re: memorization
I use this as a reference for VSEPR and the shape/bond angles. Hope this helps!

Re: memorization
There are lots of charts online, looking at them helps me try and memorize the names and the shapes associated with them! The best ones have visuals attached to them, so I'd recommend using google to find one you like, printing it out, and going over it! Learning the mechanics behind it also helps for the simpler VSEPER models (the ones without lone pairs).

Re: memorization
Hi! Something that helps me is "dissecting" the shape names; for trigonal, "tri" is three, so there are three branches, etc. I also remember in high school we drew out a little chart similar to the picture posted above, so maybe just drawing the diagram out for yourself will help! You can color-code them as well if that helps you.

Re: memorization
Learning the names for geometry is definitely the most difficult thing for me in this class so far. There are a lot of great charts online but I'm never really sure if the one that I'm looking at includes everything that we need to know, plus you will not have access to a chart on the exam. What I will do is probably make my own chart based off of what Dr. Lavelle has taught us, since I learn better by writing things down myself.

Re: memorization
There are many resources online like tables and such that show the shapes and what you expect to see, so you could use those. Also, I think understanding why those shapes are the way they are is important, and I think Dr. Lavelle did a great job at explaining it!

Re: memorization
The easiest way for me to think about shapes is just to draw a lewis diagram and picture the molecule in my head. Then I can see if it's a plane, pyramid, seesaw, etc. and think of the name that matches my mental image. Charts can also be helpful for memorizing what these possible names are!

Re: memorization
I'm sure flashcards would also be very helpful! I'm planning on using the chart in the link to make flashcards as a study tool. There may be Quizlets available too!

Hi!
here's another reference chart that might be helpful for you in memorizing the shape names. https://images.app.goo.gl/ETv92gyFr1m1PnUN9
