Re: Sapling HW #18
This is done like any other lewis structure (anyone correct me if I am wrong)
- Count the number of electrons in the molecules
- The carbons will be thee center atoms
- Follow the octet rule
They are very similar and only differ in the number of carbons.
From there you should be able to observe how many bonds between each carbon. :)

This one is rather straightforward. All you are doing is adding carbon atoms to your initial structure. This does not change the hydrogen arrangements in the rudimentary lewis structure as you are only inserting carbon atoms.

Hi! The best way I've found to start is to put all the carbons down with the bonds between them, and for this problem there are double bonds between all of the carbons, and then you can just add the hydrogens on the ends, and based on how many bonds carbon can form and the fact that the problem tells you the formula includes H2 that lets you know you can add 2 hydrogens to each end carbon. Hope this helps!

Hi!!! You're just adding carbon atoms to the middle of the structure and putting the right amount of bonds connected to each of them!! The hydrogen atoms shouldn't change, just the central carbon atoms! I hope this helps!

All of the structures are very similar, but differ in the number of carbons. Follow the octet rule and draw the Lewis structure with this.

Hi, a helpful tip is that you can draw the lewis structure in the way you read the molecule. For example, H2CCH2 will have 2 hydrogens bonding with the 1st and last carbon. So you can draw the carbons first (c-c) then can add the hydrogens on both ends of the lewis structure. After drawing the lewis structure you can then fix it to follow the octet rule and remember that hydrogen can only be single bonded. Hope this helps!
