finding the shape of a molecule
To find the shape of the molecule do you need to draw the best lewis structure or will any lewis structure give you the correct shape?

I think when we are trying to find the shape of a molecule, you have to draw/use the most stable lewis structure, but I am not very sure. This is also something that I wanted to know as well.

Well, each lewis structure that is possible will have a distinct shape. The question is if that shape would really occur. If you are looking for the shape that will exist, find the lewis structures that will exist.

I think that the most stable Lewis structure is usually the one we use to decide the shape of a molecule, or at least that is what Dr. Lavelle did in his lectures.
Re: finding the shape of a molecule
You should draw the most stable Lewis structure to find the molecule's geometric shape.

The most stable lewis structure is what you should use as a template for figuring out the shape/structure of a molecule.
I have a hard time visualizing 3D models as well so I use this cool website that you can search any structure up and it provides you with a 3D model to interact with! This was helpful o me in understanding where we get the shapes for molecules from!!
