VSEPR memorization
For the final, are we expected to memorize the characteristics of the VSEPR model, or can we use a table like they give us in sapling?

Re: VSEPR memorization
I believe that we need to know all of the shapes in VSEPR and be able to determine the shape based on the number of bonds and lone pairs. I don't think we will be getting a chart like we do for the homework on sapling sometimes.

Re: VSEPR memorization
I believe we are expected to memorize the VSEPR shapes, name, and bond angles. It may be helpful to also know the AXE nomenclature for each shape.

Ouch, okay, thanks! Does anyone have any tips for memorization or should I go straight for the quizlet sets?

Re: VSEPR memorization
I would try to draw out the geometry for each of the VSEPR structures and that will really help in your memorization. Additionally, like you mentioned, quizlet helps too.

Honestly, head straight for the quizlet sets. There is no real like uderstanding or figuring it out as far as the shapes go, it's just brute memorization. However, we are also going to need to know the bond angles, so for that part I would for sure start drawing stuff out and trying to visualize how the angles change.
http://intro.chem.okstate.edu/1314F00/L ... VSEPR.html This is a link that has the molecular shapes in 3D for you to look at. The bond angles are not as secific as Lavelle wants them to be though, so I would not pay attention to the bond angle column. However, this can help you visualize the shapes and figure out how the bond angles would change. I hope this helps.

Re: VSEPR memorization
it's better if we try to memorize them and what helped me was physically drawing them out.
