textbook problem 2E 25

in textbook problem 2E 25, the answer said that SF4 is a non polar molecule. however when I drew out the VSEPR, the molecule has a lone pair on S atom and shouldn't it be polar? thanks!

I think you're right on this question. SF4 is a non-polar molecule with a see-saw shape.

In VSEPR theory, the lone pair forces the molecular geometry of SF4 into a see-saw shape. Two of the S-F bonds are pointing away from each other, and their bond dipoles cancel. But the other two S-F dipoles are pointing "down". Their bond dipoles do not cancel, so the molecule is polar.
