I believe hybridization in the context of carbon refers to the mixing of atomic orbitals to form new hybrid orbitals. Carbon atoms often undergo hybridization to achieve a set of orbitals suitable for forming strong sigma bonds in molecules.

When it refers to hybridization of carbon, it is discussing the hybridized orbitals for the carbon atom in the molecule. If it asked for the hybridization of oxygen you would have to calculate for the hybridization of oxygen as the central atom. Hope this helps.
