How do we determine the hybridization of organic molecules? By the shape? In the fall 2011 Final, Question 6C, the Nitrigen atom seems to be triton all planar but the hybridization is sp3 not sp2

I believe you mean Midterm 2011 Q6C.

The nitrogen has three bonds and one lone pair. Although you cannot see the lone pair you assume it is there in order to complete the octet. There are 4 regions of electron density total, thus it is sp3 and trigonal pyramidal.
