Writing out the Hybridization

Postby Jason Muljadi 2C » Fri Nov 03, 2017 4:18 pm

Is this where you would utilize px, py, and pz? And is there a common trend to remember hybridization that one can follow?

Px, Py, and Pz are used to show which way the subshell is oriented (just think of the x, y, and z axis).

In terms of a common trend, use the amount of bond areas. For example, all atoms with 2 zones of electron density would be SP.

The number of e- density areas equal the hybridization. So for example, a molecule with 1 s and 1 p would have 2 hybridized orbitals and a hybridization of sp.
