### Delocalized pi bonds

Is a delocalized pi bond basically a hybridized bond, or in other words a double bond in a resonance structure that is hybridized over multiple bonds? What would be an example of a localized pi bond?

### Re: Delocalized pi bonds

A localized pi bond occurs when there is only 1 pi bond between two atoms and the molecule has no resonance structures.

When a shared electron pair is delocalized, it cannot be pinned to one atom in the molecule. It is shared over the whole molecule because of its resonance (blend of structures).
