What is the relation between electron promotion and hybridization?

Electron promotion is when an electron absorbs a photon to jump from a low energy level orbital to a higher energy orbital, hence “promotion.” This can only happen if the photon energy matches the energy difference of the orbitals. Hybridization is the concept of mixing atomic orbitals (s and p) into new hybrid orbitals (sp3) suitable for the pairing of electrons to form chemical bonds in valence bond theory.
