Energy levels
When writing the hybridization of an atom such as Borirn in BF3, is it necessary to write the energy level (2sp2) or can we just write it as (sp2)

Every example that I have done both with my TA and in book the answer has just been sp, sp^3, etc. So I am assuming that is sufficient for the answer.

Wouldn't the energy levels get a bit mixed up anyways, and we haven't been taught how to find what the hybridized energy level would be? I remember talking about how after hybridizing something, the new energy level is then somewhere in between the two. That is why when we are drawing out the diagram on the board, when we have the increasing energy as the y axis, the new hybridized level is somewhere in between.

you don't include the energy levels because your only looking at electron density in the valence shell

degeneracy relates to all energy levels, orbitals and subshells, it simply states subshells are the same exact energy, however, degeneracy is broken in the D orbital due to some subshells being lower energy then others
