Hybridization

Postby Nicole Jakiel 4F » Sun Nov 25, 2018 4:08 pm

In terms of hybridization, will we only need to figure out which hybridization will work? In other words, will we only need to find which hybridization will match the VSEPR model?

I believe the answer to your question is yes. The angles the hybrid orbitals take match the angles described in the VSEPR theory.

How many levels of hybridization will we need to know? sp3d2? more?

I hope we only have to know sp3d2 but i'm not too sure if we have to know any other levels.

Yes, I believe we only need to know up to that amount. I would only assume this because no problems that we covered in class or in the homework have gone above it.
