### pi bonds

Are pi bonds always just 2p?

### Re: pi bonds

pi bonds don't count for hybridization, and are in the p-block with the appropriate period

### Re: pi bonds

Pi bonds are formed with the unhybridized orbitals. Usually, they are the p-orbitals, but they can also be formed with d-orbitals.

Yes, pi bonds are always in the p subshell since it is not a part of hybridization.

### Re: pi bonds

The 2 corresponds to the quantum number!! So since, C, N, and O are in 2P and S is in 3P and so forth!

### Re: pi bonds

Since there are only two electrons in each of the 1s and 2s orbitals, you will never see a double bond here. And without a double bond, there will be no pi bonds!
