Hybridization is when atomic orbitals are mixed into hybrid orbitals so that chemical bonding is easier. Basically, electrons can move into new hybrid orbitals and these orbitals are used to create bonds with other hybrid orbitals in different atoms in order to for a molecule.

Today in lecture, Dr. Lavelle pointed out that we'll be going over hybridization on Monday. I know it doesn't help you now, but just wanted to make sure you know that he will be going over it.

I think hybridization notation is used to describe how many orbitals of each orbital level/type are occupied by electrons when they're not full?
