Could someone please provide a list of what we should expect to be on Test 2? Thank you!

I think he said it is going to cover bonding, VSEPR, and intermolecular interactions. It is not gonna include any content from the midterm, so basically from Outline 2D and onwards to where we are now basically.

This is what one of the TA's said:

- Use VSEPR model to determine the shape of inorganic, organic, and small biological molecules, cations, and anions
- Use bond dipole moments and shape to determine if a molecule is polar or non-polar
- Use shape and polar or non-polar properties, identify intermolecular interactions/forces (H-bonding, dipole-dipole, dispersion)
- Explain why lone pairs are more likely to be found in certain locations around a central atom and how and why they affect the bond angles in a molecule, cation, or anion
- Distinguish sigma and pi bonds by their shapes, properties, and component orbitals

Dr. Lavelle also explicitly said Hybridization would not be on Test 2

Hello!

Could you explain your fourth bullet point - why lone pairs are more likely to found in certain locations around a central atom? How do we know where lone they would most likely be? Thank you!

@DHavo_3H I think it has something to do with it being the most stable organization that requires the least amount of energy.

My TA said it was not cumulative, so everything we have covered after the midterm.

I'm pretty sure it's everything we covered after the midterm up until but not including hybridization.

So the recommended problem sets from the syllabus that we've covered for Test 2 it would be 2D, 3F, and 2E?

Test 2 covers everything after the midterm, but not hybridization.
