### Hybridization of H2

Does H2, since its linear, have a sp hybridization even though it doesn't have "access," per say, to p orbitals in its ground state electrons? Would it not have hybridized orbitals in general?

There is no need for the orbitals to hybridize since they each have 2 unpaired electrons in the s orbital. Hybridization is observed when there are more sigma bonds than the number of unpaired valence electrons in the ground state of the central atom.

hybridization is a concept used for mixing or overlapping s and p orbitals, and since hydrogen only has a 1s orbital, it doesn't hybridize.
