### Homework 2.45

Part b of this questions asks us to Identify the composition of the bonds and the hybridization of each lone pair—for example, by writing s (H1s,C2sp 2).

What do they mean by lone pair? The Lewis structure I drew only has lone pairs around the oxygen for this molecule so do they just want the information on the oxygen?

I think what the textbook was getting at was the fact that each lone pair counts as a region of electron density and therefore contributes to hybridization. For example, in NH3, the central N atom has a hybridization of sp3 because of this.
